Issue:

Civil 3D freezes and drawing crashes with a fatal error when third-party objects were saved within the file. 

Causes:

  • The file or one of its references contains objects created in 3rd party software Vectorworks. 

Solution:

Try the following to avoid this issue:
  • For publishing issues: turn off the background printing option if enabled.
  • For other issues: explode any blocks created in 3rd party software.
