Issue:

Drawings take a long time to open in AutoCAD following the change of Network-Attached Storage (NAS) used.

Causes:

References in the drawing are set to use an Absolute path which points to the old NAS, requiring a redirection to the new NAS.

Solution:

Update the saved path in the referenced files.

To set references to use a Relative path

  1. Enter XREF.
  2. Right-click on each reference in the Reference palette.
  3. Choose Change Path Type > Make Relative.

To set references to use an Absolute path again

  1. Enter XREF.
  2. Right-click on each reference in the Reference palette.
  3. Choose Change Path Type > Make Relative.
  4. Right-click again on each reference.
  5. Choose Change Path Type > Make Absolute.
Note: it is also possible to use the Reference Manager (not included in AutoCAD LT). See: How to change paths for multiple Xrefs in AutoCAD drawings.
