"EnergyPlus simulation did not generate a report for systems analysis" after running System Analysis in Revit

Issue:

User reported that after running System Analysis in Revit, a new report is generated, and the following message appears:

EnergyPlus simulation did not generate a report for systems analysis.

EnergyPlus simulation did not generate a report for systems analysis 

When looking through the eplusout.err file, the following entries can be found:

** Severe  ** <root>[Coil:Cooling:Water][Heating-1 Cooling Coil] - Missing required property 'water_inlet_node_name'.
** Severe  ** <root>[Coil:Cooling:Water][Heating-1 Cooling Coil] - Missing required property 'water_outlet_node_name'.
**  Fatal  ** Errors occurred on processing input file. Preceding condition(s) cause termination.

Note: If an eplusout.err file is not created then there are spaces that are shared between more than one Zone Equipment.

Causes:

  • Zone equipment that includes coils, such as a Radiant Panel, does not have one or more coils assigned.
  • There are spaces that are shared between more than one Zone Equipment.

Solution:

Modify existing systems and follow the following steps to get the correct Analysis Report

  1. For Heating Zone Equipment it is necessary to select Cooling Coil and Chilled Water Loop:

  1. Click Apply.
  2. Click Analyze tabEnergy Optimization panel (Delete Energy Model).

  1. Click OK.
  2. Then click Analyze tabEnergy Optimization panel Systems Analysis .

  1. Click Create the Energy Analytical Model and continue to run the system analysis.
  2. Select desired analysis workflow:

  1. Click Run Analysis.

Remove spaces that are shared between more than one Zone Equipment

  1. Click View tabWindows panel User Interface drop-downSystem Browser.
    Note: You can also use the keyboard shortcut F9 to open the System Browser.
  2. From the Analytical Systems section, Right-click on a zone.
  3. Select Expand All.
  4. Select a space to highlight it.
  5. Press the Down Arrow key to highlight each space in the Zone Equipment.
  6. Note any space that highlights more than one Zone Equipment.
  7. Select one of the duplicated Spaces.
  8. Right-click on the space.
  9. Select Remove Equipment.
  10. Run the system analysis.
  11. Select desired analysis workflow:

  1. Click Run Analysis.
