Issue:

Fusion hangs/freezes on startup on Windows OS.

  • Fusion may get stuck on the splash screen or the application window for example on the "Connecting to your data" notification. 
  • A "Not Responding" message may appear at the top of the application window. 
  • A blank white screen may display before or after the splash screen.
  • The mouse cursor turns to a blue circle.

Solution:

First, try this troubleshooter form to help solve issues regarding launching Fusion.

Alternatively, you can follow these manual steps:

Restart and Reset Fusion

Change the Windows graphics card used by Fusion

  1. Search for "Graphics settings" in the Windows search bar.
  2. Under "Choose an app to set preference" select "Desktop app".
  3. Click "Browse".
  4. Locate and select Fusion.
  5. Go to "Options" and set the "Graphics preference" to "High performance".

Delete the NMachineSpecificOptions.xml file

  1. Close Fusion.
  2. Clear the login NMachineSpecificOptions.xml through the article here: How to clear the login credentials for Fusion
  3. Reopen Fusion.

Update Graphics Drivers and Windows OS

Check that there is no Time Mismatch

Confirm that no network connectivity errors are preventing Fusion from opening

Disable Machine Learning if Trend Micro AntiVirus is Used

  • For Windows machines that have Trend Micro AntiVirus installed, an option through the System menu is that machine learning is enabled by default.
  • To disable it:
    1. Open the Trend Micro Control Panel.
    2. Select System.
    3. Select Configure.
    4. In the Scan Preferences tab, clear Enable Machine-learning to Protect New or Unknown Threats.

Disable the Sandbox for Fusion in Avast AntiVirus

  1. In Avast, To access Sandbox settings, click the  Settings icon in the top-right of the Sandbox screen, or go to  Menu ▸ Settings ▸ Protection ▸ Sandbox.
  2. Make sure that Fusion doesn't show up under the "The following applications will always run virtualized" list.

Allow Fusion in Digital Guardian

  1. Consult with your system/IT administrator.
  2. Set an exception in Digital Guardian for Fusion.

If the issue appears after a Windows update or Windows crash

  1. Open command line (cmd.exe) as administrator.
  2. Run the command sfc -scannow

Perform manual clean uninstall of Autodesk Fusion

  1. Manually uninstall Fusion
  2. Download Installer and run the installer as administrator

Create an Environment Variable

  1. Set environment variables: How to create and set Environment Variables using text file for Fusion.
  2. Enter "QT_OPENGL" within the Variable name.
  3. Enter "angle" within the Variable value.
  4. Restart Fusion.
  5. If the setting causes further issues, edit the "QT_OPENGL" variable.
  6. Enter "software" within the Variable value.
  7. Restart Fusion.

Unplug external monitor

  1. Unplug the external monitor while starting Fusion
  2. Launch Fusion
