Issue:

Where are temp/ cache data are stored in Revit? How to avoid Revit filling up the hard drive with temp files?

Causes:

Revit is working with data compression when handling project files and uses the Windows Temp folder >C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp< (%TMP%) to store temporary files (revittemp_*).
This can lead to the hard drive running full with temporary data. 

Solution:

Temp Files

Delete the content of the Windows Temp folder regularly following the instructions of this article: 
If the "C:\" partition of the hard drive is relatively small, it is worth considering to move the Windows Temp folder to a different location as described here:
