How to configure proxy server and firewall for Fusion (macOS)

Issue:

You want to modify the proxy server and firewall settings in macOS for Fusion.

This is an advanced article for workstations operating on a network that uses a proxy server or a firewall whitelist. To check for common connection issues, visit this article.

If you aren’t sure if you are using a proxy server, you can use this online Advanced Proxy Detector.

Solution:

Add exceptions to Bypass Proxy Settings:

  1. Choose > Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Network
  2. Choose the network service you use from the list, for example, Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
  3. Click Advanced, then click Proxies
  4. In the Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains field, copy and paste the domains outlined in the article here: Ports and Domains required by Fusion.
  5. Select OK and Apply

Configure the Firewall for Fusion:

  • One other suggestion may be to configure the firewall. To see if the firewall is activated on your machine:
    1. Choose > Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Security & Privacy.
    2. Select Firewall and note whether the Firewall is turned On or Off.
  • For test purposes, you may consider temporarily disabling the firewall:
    1. Select Turn Off Firewall in the Firewall dialog.
    2. Re-verify the behavior of Fusion 360.
  • To resolve any issues with the firewall, try the following suggestion:
    1. Choose > Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Security & Privacy.
    2. Click on the lock icon to unlock it, then type an administrator name and password.
    3. Choose Firewall and click Firewall Options.
    4. Drag the following .app file from a Finder Window to the List of applications in the Firewall Options:
      • ~/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/webdeploy/production/<Application ID***>/Autodesk Fusion 360.app
        • Note: The Application ID will change with each version of Fusion
    5. All app files should have “Allow incoming connection” next to them.
    6. Select OK and then Lock the settings.
    7. Re-Test Fusion 360 and see if the behavior has changed.

If possible you may also want to verify the operation of Fusion 360 on another network (hotspot, home network, coffee shop).
