Issue:

When using TextEdit on a Mac, the default format is rich text. In order for the Network License Manager to work correctly on a Mac, the license file must be in a plain text format and the file extension must be .lic.

Environment:

macOS

Solution:

To change the formatting of a file in TextEdit follow steps below.
  1. Open the file and select - Format - Make Plain Text as seen in this image:
TexEdit convert to plain text
  1. Click OK when asked to confirm the conversion
TexEdit convert to plain text

  1. After completing this step, the document should now be formatted as plain text and look like similar to this:
this is in plain text
Note: the hyperlink changed to a plain text string.
  1. When saving a plain text file, the default extension is .txt - if you need to save the file using a different extension do the following:
  • When saving the file, uncheck the box stating Hide extension
  • Uncheck the box stating, If no extension is provided, use ".txt" then add the extension you wish to use.
  • Verify that the file saved correctly and does not have a .txt extension
file extension .lic
