Issue:

How to keep Revit Server running when support for Microsoft Silverlight is discontinued? Revit Server Administrator Panel and its content will soon be unavailable due to lack of support for Microsoft Silverlight.

Environment:

The installed Revit Server in which Administrator Panel uses Microsoft Silverlight to display content and can only be accessed in Internet Explorer.

Causes:

Microsoft Silverlight will reach the end of support on October 12, 2021. More details on this topic are at this link: Silverlight End of Support.

Solution:

New versions of the Revit Server installation files have been created that no longer use Microsoft Silverlight to display content for the Revit Server Administrator Panel: Installation Instructions:
  1. All project members who are actively collaborating on Revit Server should save their work and leave the models that are stored on Revit Server.
  2. Lock the server in Revit Server Administrator.
  3. Make a backup of the project folder (for different version) where the Revit models are located. For example, the default location for Revit Server 2022 is: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit Server 2022\Projects.
  4. Uninstall Revit Server.
  5. Install the new Revit Server version.
  6. When installing, indicate the same folder where the models are currently located (path to the original copies of the models, not for backup).
  7. Make sure that at least the Host and Admin roles are checked.
  8. Once the installation is complete, log again into the Revit Server Administrator Page.
  9. Unlock the server.
Note:
  • Revit Server 2023 and later were never distributed dependent on Silverlight, so there is no need to reinstall these versions.
  • Revit Server 2019 and older has to rely on Silverlight to display the Administration Panel.
