Issue:

How to migrate settings from the older version to the newer version or one computer to another in Civil 3D.

Solution:

The process of migrating Civil 3D can involve many steps, depending on customization, shared data, profiles (.arg files) as well as migrating the settings for survey, pipe networks etc. To migrate the settings, do each of the following:
  1. Export/Import the user profile from the Options>Profiles tab (About Saving Program Settings as Profiles).
    • Note: the default location for user profiles is C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\C3D 20xx\enu\Support\Profiles
  2. Export/Import workspaces and other changes to the Custom User Interface using the transfer tab in the CUI dialog (Transferring workspace to another computer for AutoCAD Products).
    • Note: Workspaces are saved in the main CUIX file called c3d.cuix located by default at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\C3D 20xx\enu\Support
    • Alternatively, copy CUIX files from the saved location and manually transfer them between the computers.
  3. Copy custom Survey Figure Prefix Database and Linework Code Set (C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\C3D 20xx\enu\Survey). .fdb_xd and .edb_xdef
  4. Copy custom Pipe Catalogs and adjust Part Catalog paths (To Specify the Pipe Network Part Catalog).
  5.  Any custom lisp routine may need to be loaded.
