Issue:

  • How to preserve the history of previous versions when initiating the same Revit model again in BIM 360?
  • The model has been sent to an external company, which has updated it. It is necessary to reinitiate Cloud Worksharing and keep the previous history.
  • What is the recommended workflow in such a case?

Solution:

To resolve this, use the following steps:

  1. Open the model that is saved locally in Revit.
Note: The model name must remain the same.
  1. Go to BIM 360 Document Management and add a new subfolder.
  2. Select the last published model.
  3. Click on Move icon and move project to created new subfolder.

  1. Back to Revit.
  2. Click the Collaborate tabManage Collaboration panel (Collaborate).
  3. Indicate the folder where the last published model was previously located.
  4. Click Initiate.
  5. Wait until the model is initiated and published on BIM 360 Document Management (V2).
  6. Select the new version of the model.
  7. Click on the Copy icon and copy the newly initiated model to the subfolder where the previous version was moved.

  1. These models will merge and keep the previous versions.

Note:

  • This process will convert the previous model to a non-cloud model and will not open in Revit from the home page. The only purpose of the merged model is to have the history of previous versions stored in the project.
  • After the process, only the new local copy that has been initialized as the Cloud Workshared model will be available to open in Revit from the home page.
