Issue:

How to suppress warning messages and other dialogs when opening a scene in 3ds Max.

These dialogs include:
  • Missing External Files (bitmaps/missing maps).
  • Missing XRefs.
  • Mis-Matched Units.
  • Multiple XRefs being loaded. (Each one can generate its own dialog box.)

Solution:

To suppress or turn off any unwanted warnings or dialog windows for the current 3ds Max session, download and run the attached MAXScript file:
  1. In 3ds Max, go to the Scripting menu.
  2. Choose Run Script.
  3. Select the TurnOffDialogs.ms file.
  4. Open any MAX scene. No messages will appear.
If desired, the script can be placed in the 3ds Max "Startup folder" (C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max <version>\scripts\Startup) to prevent dialog windows from displaying for each 3ds Max session launched.

Important Note: This configuration is not recommended, as some issues can only be diagnosed via warning dialogs.
