Issue:

How to import a STEP file into AutoCAD products

Solution:

Do the following from within AutoCAD:

  1. Type IMPORT in the command line.
  2. Locate the folder containing the STEP file.
  3. Select the file and click OK.
  4. A window might pop up indicating that the import process is working in the background. Click Close.
  5. In the lower right corner of AutoCAD, a notification message will pop up, indicating that the import has been completed. Click on the link shown in the pop-up notification.

  6. Use the EXPLODE command to split the assembly file into parts if required

NOTE: Importing STEP files is not possible with AutoCAD LT or AutoCAD for Mac.
