Issue:

Inventor is crashing when GDI Objects reaches limit for example above 5000. Crash can occur after performing various operations, for example, style editing or export.

Causes:

It is a default Windows setting that a process - in this case Inventor.exe - cannot reserve more than limit of GDI objects. As soon the 5.001 or 10.001st object (depends on limit settings) is going to be reserved, this Windows process crashes immediately.

Solution:

The most often solutions for this are:
  1. Update the video drivers on that computer:
  2. Set iLogic to not automatically load:
    • This will tell you if the issue is related to iLogic code
  3. Unload unnecessary Addins in Inventor to save GDI objects.
  4. Change Windows limits for GDI:
