Issue:

Is a build-to-build (B2B) Database migration required after installing a Vault update?

Causes:

After installing an update or hotfix to Vault server, you are not sure if a B2B migration is required.

Solution:

Understanding when B2B database migration is requiered in Vault Server Updates.
 
  • B2B migration is typically needed after the installation of a double-dot-update for Vault Server
    • Examples: 2022.3.4, 2024.3.1
  • Whether B2B migration is required for a specific update can be found in the installation instructions.
    • These instructions are located in the Readme file of the respective update.
  • If a single and a double dot update is installed sequentially and Server console is launched after that triggering a database migration, another separate B2B migration is not required.
Note: Failing to run the B2B migration when it is stated as necessary in the installation instructions could cause severe issues for the Vault environment.
