Issue:

How to migrate custom settings in AutoCAD Mechanical 2017 and newer using the Migrate from a Previous Release utility.

Solution:

In AutoCAD Mechanical 2017 and newer, you can now use the utility to migrate customization settings from an older of version AutoCAD Mechanical that is installed on the same machine.

Note: The Migrate from Previous Release tool does not migrate AutoCAD Mechanical specific customization settings saved outside template files. For example, you cannot migrate Chamfer and Fillet Settings, Title Blocks, Drawing Borders, Custom Balloons, and Parts List Settings. Such settings must be migrated manually. Please see the section "What Settings Can Be Migrated" for a comprehensive list of settings that are migrated.

How to Migrate:

To migrate custom settings from previous versions of AutoCAD Mechanical, you need to launch the Migrate Custom Settings dialog as follows:

Windows Start Menu > All Programs > Autodesk > AutoCAD Mechanical 2017 > Migrate Custom Settings > Migrate From a Previous Release

 

What Settings Can Be Migrated

  • User Profiles

    Custom user profiles that you create for settings and options configured in the Options for the drawing environment.

    • Location: C:\Users\<user login>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD Mechanical 20xx\Rxx.x\enu\Support\Profiles
  • CUI

    Custom user interface (eg. ribbon, toolbars, workspaces, menus, etc.) that you created.

    • File extension: .cuix
    • Location: C:\Users\<user login>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD Mechanical 20xx\Rxx.x\enu\Support
  • Tool Palettes

    Custom tool palette that you created to manage blocks, annotations, hatch patterns and custom tools.

    • File extension: .atc
    • Location: C:\Users\<user login>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD Mechanical 20xx\Rxx.x\enu\Support\ToolPalette\Palettes
  • Command Alias

    Custom command alias that you added to the list for frequently used commands.

    • File extension: .pgp
    • Location: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 20xx\Acadm\en-US\acad.pgp
  • Plot Files

    Custom plotter configurations.

    • File extension: .pc3
    • Location: C:\Users\<user login>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD Mechanical 20xx\Rxx.x\enu\Plotters
  • Templates

    Templates that you create to store various settings (eg. layers, linetypes, drawing units) pre-established for your company standards.

    • File extension: .dwt
    • Location: C:\Users\<user login>\AppData\ Local\Autodesk\AutoCAD Mechanical 20xx\Rxx.x\enu\Acadm\Template
  • Hatch Patterns

    Custom hatch patterns that you added to the library.

    • File extension: .pat
    • Location: C:\Users\<user login>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD Mechanical 20xx\Rxx.x\enu\Support\acad.pat (or acadiso.pat)
  • Linetypes

    Custom linetypes that you created. Note that you need to store your custom .lin files in the user profile location as indicated below for the migration utility to work.

    • File extension: .lin
    • Location: C:\Users\<user login>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD Mechanical 20xx\Rxx.x\enu\Support
  • Shapes (SHX)

    Custom SHX fonts for your text.

    • File extension: .shx
    • Location: C:\Users\<user login>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD Mechanical 20xx\Rxx.x\enu\Support
  • Materials

    Materials that are added to the Favorites library.

    • File extension: FavoriteMaterials.adsklibhx file
    • Location: C:\Users\<user login>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD Mechanical 20xx\Rxx.x\enu\Materials

What You Cannot Do

Migrate Custom Settings only works for different versions of AutoCAD Mechanical installed on the same machine. You cannot migrate settings from an old version of AutoCAD Mechanical from one machine to AutoCAD Mechanical 2017 that is installed in another machine.
