Issue:

Users reported that when working in Revit 2020 and 2021, a Red box shows up for certain materials, even when the material is available through one of the Additional Render Appearance paths specified in the Revit Options .

The pop-up note displayed when hovering the mouse of the red box says:
“The texture file cannot be found. Click here to locate missing texture file or specify a new texture file. Expected location:[Path where material was last seen]

Status:

This incident has been resolved in:

Revit 2020.2.4
Revit 2021.1.3
Revit 2022

To install updates, open the Autodesk desktop app and click My Updates. To install a new version of your Autodesk software, open the Autodesk desktop app, sign in, and click My Products. To use a web browser to install updates or a new version, sign in to Autodesk Account. (Your access to new versions or updates depends on your Autodesk software entitlements.)

Additional Information:

This behavior occurs when the path to the material is changed.

Workaround:

Here are a couple ways to work around this behavior.
  • If this is happening for just a few materials, repath the appearance manually, by clicking on the red box and selecting the material.
  • If this is happening repeatedly, a different workflow/location may need to be used so that all users are accessing the material appearances from the same path (this way the path would not change, and the issue would not occur).
