Issue:

  • When synchronizing a specific model or models in a specific folder to the Revit Server host, the following message occurs:

Operation Could Not Be Completed

This operation could not be completed. Please try again.
If you are collaborating on a model using the cloud or Revit Server, check your network connection.
If the problem persists, save any changes to the models locally.

  • Neither team member can sync changes to the affected model, but other models work correctly from the same Revit Server host.
  • The model is not corrupted and works correctly in other environments, including other Revit Server locations on the same host.
  • A line similar to the following occurs in the Revit Journal.
System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[Autodesk.RevitServer.Enterprise.Common.ClientServer.DataContract.System.ServiceFault]: The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters.

Causes:

The path on a Revit Server exceeds the Windows path length limitation of 260 characters.

Solution:

To be able to work on the model, do one of the following:

  • Shorten the model paths for the model's location in the Revit Server Admin panel.
Note: Files may require re-linking after migration.
  • Reinstall the Revit Server host with the project location in a shorter path.
Note: Paths for the project's folder location on a Revit Server host can only be specified during installation.
