Issue:

AutoCAD or AutoCAD vertical (.DWG) file corruption can be seen through one or more of the following symptoms:
  • File will open with errors.
  • File takes a long time to open. 
  • File hangs or crashes AutoCAD.
  • Slow performance when editing and manipulating the file.
  • Error messages when working in the file.
  • Commands do not work or there is considerable delay in operation.
  • Unexplained file size increases.
  • Display/ Regen problems.
  • Drawing Standards change in the file.
  • Drawing elements missing or shown incorrectly.
  • Viewport and object scaling is inaccurate and inconsistent.
  • Viewport contents disappear and cannot be recovered. 

Causes:

How to import a layout with viewports from one AutoCAD file to another File corruption can be introduced in numerous ways, some examples are listed below:
  • Third-party applications running inside AutoCAD.
  • DWG files created or saved by non-Autodesk or non-RealDWG products.
  • AutoCAD terminated while saving the drawing.
  • Old drawings used repeatedly over long time periods.
  • Network anomalies (transmission errors, file locking, latent writing of data).
  • Storage media degradation (bad sectors on a hard drive).

Solution:

Copy/Paste Operations

Copy/Paste Operation (All objects)

  1. Ensure that all layers are On, Thawed, and Unlocked.
  2. Open the corrupted drawing and a new drawing.
  3. Use keyboard combo CTRL + A to select all objects in the drawing.
  4. Use keyboard combo CTRL + SHFT+ C to copy all objects in the corrupted drawing using the base point 0,0,0.
  5. Use keyboard combo CTRL + V to paste the objects into the new drawing using the insertion point 0,0,0.
  6. Save the new drawing.

Copy/Paste Operation (All visible objects only)

  1. Open the corrupted drawing and a new drawing.
  2. Select all visible objects using a cursor.
  3. Use keyboard combo CTRL + SHFT+ C to copy all objects in the corrupted drawing using the base point 0,0,0.
  4. Use keyboard combo CTRL + V to paste the objects into the new drawing using the insertion point 0,0,0.
  5. Save the new drawing.
