"Permissions problem" when installing Fusion 360

Issue:

The following message appears when trying to install Fusion 360: 

Permissions problem. 
What's wrong? 
We are unable to write Fusion 360 files to your computer. This could happen for a number of reasons. 
 

Solution:

First, try this troubleshooting form  to help solve the most common issues causing issues installing Fusion 360.
Alternatively, you can follow the manual steps below:

Note: If the message "[Errno 13] Permission denied" appears in the error details, see "PermissionError: [Errno 13] Permission denied" when updating or installing Fusion 360

Perform the following:
  1. Check the Task Manager (Windows) or Activity Manager (Mac) to quit any processes related to Fusion 360.
On Mac, end any processes named "Fusion360" in the Activity Monitor.
On Windows, end any tasks named "Fusion360.exe" in the Task Manager.
  1. Run the installer again.
  2. If the installer still fails, virus-scanning software may be blocking the Fusion 360 installation. In this case, you will need to modify the security settings or temporarily disable the virus-scanning software, and then run the installer again.
