Users reported that Revit crashes on startup or when opening files.
Other symptoms may include:
The crash may occur when the program is visible.
The crash might occur after the splash screen appears.
The crash may prompt sending a Customer Error Report (CER) to Autodesk.
First, identify if the crash occurs when opening Revit by itself (without opening a Revit model). Then try one or more of the following:
Install Revit updates : Follow the article: How to keep Revit updated.
Disable Add-Ins : See the following article for information on how to Check if add-ons are causing unexpected behavior in Revit.
Clear TEMP : Follow the article: How to delete temporary files in Windows.
Install Windows updates: Update the Windows system with all Microsoft's recommended updates and fixes.
Try with the anti-virus disabled : Try to run Revit as Administrator (see Run as Administrator in Windows 10).
Create a new Local User account in Windows:
Create a new local user account on the computer.
Assign the required administrator permissions to this user.
Sign in to the computer with the newly created test account and see if Revit starts properly.
Note: More details in the article: How to create a new local administrator Windows user account
Rename the atiadlxx.dll.
If the Windows Event Viewer references the atiadlxx.dll as the faulting component, rename the DLL to "atiadlxx.dll.bak".
Note: The DLL is in the following path: C:\Windows\system32
Remove ProjectWise Explorer.
Contact Bentley support to verify compatibility with your version of Revit. (See Unable to open Revit file after installing ProjectWise)
Cloud Model : If the model being opened is stored on a BIM 360 or Autodesk Docs cloud project, see the following article: Crash with or without CER occurs when trying to open any model in Revit.
Install Revit Updates : See the following article: How to keep Revit updated.
Disable Add-ons : See the following article: Check if add-ons are causing unexpected behavior in Revit.
Try opening the file with Audit.
Open with worksets closed
Open the model with the worksets containing linked models closed: Open Worksets.
If the model opens, reload each link individually until the problematic link is identified.
Note: See the following for Revit and AutoCAD links:
See the following link for more troubleshooting: Crash AND open.
Close all Autodesk software, then rename or delete the following three files from this location: C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet
adskflex_<number>_tsf.data
adskflex_<number>_event.log
adskflex_<number>_tsf.data_backup.00
Note: Check if the files are not hidden using these steps: How to turn on hidden files and folders on Windows
Locate and rename the ADUT folder:
Go to C:\User\username\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ADUT.
Rename the folder (for example, to "ADUT2").
Delete the contents of the folder: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS
