Issue:

Users reported that Revit files over 2GB cannot be opened.

Status:

This incident has been resolved in:

Revit 2021

To install updates, open the Autodesk desktop app and click My Updates. To install a new version of your Autodesk software, open the Autodesk desktop app, sign in, and click My Products. To use a web browser to install updates or a new version, sign in to Autodesk Account. (Your access to new versions or updates depends on your Autodesk software entitlements.)

Additional Information:

  • Note: Although we now allow models larger than 2 GB in Revit 2021. We strongly recommend dividing non-workshared models larger than 2 GB into smaller models to improve performance and stability.
  • See the following help topic for information on how to Model Efficiently.
  • For earlier versions of Revit 2021, Revit cannot open non-workshared files where its size exceeds 2 GB.

Workaround:

  • Open previous file version (file size lower than 2 GB) and make it as workshared file.
  • Open previous file version and split model to smaller files.
