Issue:

When running an Energy Analysis in Revit through Insight, the calculation fails with the following message:

AUTODESK INSIGHT

Your analysis failed.

An unrecoverable internal error has occurred.

Causes:

Coordinates in the model or the linked model exceed 1 mile (1.6 kilometers).

Solution:

To run the energy analysis successfully, change the coordinates in the Revit model so that the Project Base Point is less than 1 mile (5280 feet or 1.6 kilometers) from the Survey Point.

Adjust Revit model position

  1. Open the model in Revit
  2. Click Manage tabProject Location panelCoordinates drop-down (Specify Coordinates at Point)
  3. Click around the center of the model
  4. Set the N/S and E/W to 0,0
  5. Delete and recreate the energy model
  6. Open the energy model view from View tabGraphics panel (Visibility/Graphics)
  7. Click on the Model Categories tab
  8. Check only the categories listed on this page. See About Creating Energy Models from Architectural Elements.
Note: If changing project coordinates is not an option, create a detached copy of the model in which to change the coordinates, and run the analysis in the detached copy with smaller coordinates.

Alternatively - Run Energy Analysis based on Building Elements only:

  1. Open the affected Revit model
  2. On the Ribbon, go to Analyze tabEnergy Optimization panel (Energy Settings)
  3. In the Energy Settings dialog select "Use Building Elements" from the drop-down list for Energy Analytical Model > Mode:

  2. On the Ribbon, go to Analyze tabEnergy Optimization panel (Create Energy Model) to start a new analysis.
