"This operation could not be completed. Please try again..." when clicking manage worksets dialog box in Revit

Issue:

When opening a model or clicking Manage Worksets on a linked model in the Manage Links dialog, Revit gives the following error:

Operation Could Not Be Completed

This operation could not be completed. Please try again.
If you are collaborating on a model using the cloud or Revit Server, check your network connection.
If the problem persists, save any changes to the models locally.
 

 

The Revit journal records lines like the following preceding the error:

' 0:<   DataStorageClient.Exceptions.CentralModelException: (BadRequest, ):

Causes:

  • The linked model has not been detached from the central model.
  • The machine name includes special characters which were causing the bad request response from RCW services.

Solution:

To clear the message when open the file or click the worksets:

  • Create a detached copy of the linked model and reload it.
  • Change the PC name without special characters from the Control Panel.
