Issue:

When interacting with Revit Server, the following error message appears:

Operation Could Not Be Completed

This operation could not be completed. Please try again.
If you are collaborating on a model using the cloud or Revit Server, check your network connection.
If the problem persists, save any changes to the models locally.

This operation could not be completed. Please try again.

Solution:

This message can occur for a variety of reasons. To research the cause of the message, look at the following:

Supported Environment

See the System Requirements for Autodesk Revit Products for more information to ensure that each version of Revit and Revit Server are running on a supported environment.

Functionality of Revit Server

Perform the steps in the following article to verify the basic functionality of the Revit Server: How to check if an installation of Revit Server is working properly.

Revit Journals

Review the Revit journal files around the time the error was received, and check if any of the following items are found:

Journal	Troubleshooting Article
DBG_WARN: Central permission origId = [Element ID]:	Unable to save specific project to Revit Server.
TCP error code 10060: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time	"This operation could not be completed. Please try again..." when browsing or syncing to central on Revit Server
This Revit Server is not a host	"This operation could not be completed. Please try again" when trying to open or save files to a new Revit Server
ModelDataAccessTokenExpiredException:	"This operation could not be completed. Please try again..." when synchronizing with a central model stored on Revit Server.
System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException	"This operation could not be completed. Please try again" when trying to access Revit Server from the Open dialog box in Revit
Revit cannot create a local copy from the central file RSN	"This operation could not be completed. Please try again..." when opening a newly saved model from Revit Server
UnauthorizedAccessException, Message : Access to the path is denied	"This operation could not be completed. Please try again..." when opening a newly saved model from Revit Server
super.lock' is denied	"Revit Server Administrator is not available" or "operation could not be completed" message received
An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host	“An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host...” in journal when using Revit Server
Root element is missing	"This operation could not be completed..." when synchronizing a specific file to Revit Server
tcpbuffer' could not be activated	"This operation could not be completed. Please try again." when using Revit Server
System.ServiceModel.FaultException:There is not enough space on the disk	"Operation Could Not Be Completed..." when trying to create new local from or synchronize to a central model on Revit Server
File being saved was larger than the maximum allowed	"Operation could not be completed" when saving a model to Revit Server
No transaction is active on this connection	“Revit could not create a local file from RSN://…” error when opening Revit Server model
System.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file	Revit Server process cannot access file because it is being used by another process

Revit Server Log Files

Review the Revit Server log files around the time the error was received. Especially look for lines relating to the Revit Server GUID recorded in the journal when Revit was communicating with the Revit Server.

Server Log	Troubleshooting Article
MSG(BlockError: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '[Path]' is denied:	"This operation could not be completed..." when saving or synchronizing central model to Revit Server.
DataContract.System.ServiceFault]: The specified path, file name, or both are too long	"Operation Could Not Be Completed" when syncing a specific model or models in a specific folder on a Revit Server
The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed	Revit Server stops working when Domain is down
No server log is created	Revit Server: Authentication options prevent Revit Server from working

Note: As Revit Server runs within IIS (Internet Information Services), errors recorded in journals and server logs for Revit Server will be generated by IIS. Online resources for IIS errors can often be used for troubleshooting.

Errors when browsing SVC files: Revit Server Errors encountered when browsing SVC files
Errors when saving or syncing to the Revit Server: Error: "Operation Could Not be Completed" when saving to Revit Server.
Other errors:
- An additional cause of this error is that the Revit Server version is not the same version of Revit (Files).
- Revit Server works only with the same version of Revit (Files). In this case you will need to install the same Revit Server year version as the Revit files.
