Issue:

The article covers the following issues:
  • How to determine which edition of SQL Server (some call it incorrectly a version) should be used, the Express, the Standard, or any higher one?
  • Where is the best practice to do sizing? Is it in the number of documents, like 10,000 files or size of documents, like 10 Terabytes files the main indicator?
  • Is there any restriction on which editions of SQL works with each version of Vault - Basic or Professional?

Causes:

  • Software planning
  • Software licensing

Solution:

For edition of SQL Server

Refer to the post "Comparing Different Editions of MS SQL" on the blog Cracking the Vault.

For Size of Documents

Note: It is always possible upgrade the Express edition to any higher if necessary.

For Restriction on SQL Editions:

  • There is no restriction on which edition of SQL server can be used with Vault. Basic and Professional all will work with Express, Standard or Enterprise editions of SQL Server.
  • Autodesk cannot recommend a 3rd party software to use the choice must be made by the system administrator
