Issue:

Users reported that sometimes, when synchronizing changes to a Cloud Worksharing Model in Revit, or closing and reopening Revit with a Cloud Worksharing Model, the saved path of a linked Revit model on BIM 360 unexpectedly changes from the cloud to the Collaboration Cache folder.  Revit reports missing links and displays the Cache folder path in the Manage Links dialog.

Revit does not allow the affected user to relink the model either, while another computer (user) is able to maintain the links inside the same host model.

This issue happens sporadically only and is not reproducible with all opening or synchronizing processes.

Status:

No issue has been identified and the software is behaving as designed.

Additional Information:

This occurs when somebody has performed a 'Force Relinquish' action in Manage Cloud Models to relinquish borrowed elements. This breaks the link in the host model for other users.
Note: Force Relinquish is a destructive operation and should be used sparingly. It is intended to be used as a last resort when the user to be relinquished is unavailable for some reason.

If a 'Force Relinquish' is performed for a user, then all the changes that the user made and have not synced become orphaned and lost. While the central model will be unaffected, people can lose work and will need to close and reopen the model. It is better for the user to open the model and use Relinquish All Mine to relinquish their permissions rather than using the Manage Cloud Models dialog box.

Note: If this behavior is found when Force Relinquish has not been used, see the following article for troubleshooting the behavior: Cloud Workshared Models linked files are repathing when opening with Revit

Workaround:

Open Link

Use the following steps as a work-around to enable the affected user to continue working:
  1. Open the affected linked models.
  2. Synchronize.
  3. Open the host model.

Borrowed Elements

If a Force Relinquish action is happening due to borrowed elements, see the following: "Can't edit the element until [Username] resaves...” when attempting to open or modify a model in Revit
