Send To function in 3ds Max is grayed out when sending to Mudbox, Maya, Motionbuilder

Issue:

The "Send To..." options in the 3ds Max menu are grayed out when attempting to send files to Maya, Motion Builder or Mudbox.

Causes:

Files are being sent between two different (non-congruent) versions of version of Maya, Motion Builder or Mudbox from 3ds Max -- for example, from 3ds Max 2021 to Mudbox 2019.

Solution:

Backwards compatibility is not available when using the Send To function in 3ds Max.

For the listed options to become available for use, the "receiving" software must be the same version number as 3ds Max, e.g.,
  • 3ds Max 2021 to Maya 2021
  • 3ds Max 2020 to Motion Builder 2020
  • 3ds Max 2019 to Mudbox 2019
To fix this issue, log into your Autodesk Account > All Programs, then download and install the required versions of 3ds Max, Maya, Mudbox or Motion Builder so that each version numbers match up.
