Issue:

How to set a default lineweight for layers in AutoCAD.

Solution:

The default lineweight for layers can be defined by setting the layers to BYLAYER or BYBLOCK, or by setting the CELWEIGHT variable so that the default value for the layers is the same as that for LWDEFAULT.

CELWEIGHT values

Following are descriptions for the possible CELWEIGHT values:

-1BYLAYER (default)
-2BYBLOCK
-3LWDEFAULT value

Note: Any value greater than 0 sets the lineweight to a new value in millimeters.

To set the CELWEIGHT variable:

  1. Enter CELWEIGHT on the command line.
  2. Enter the value for the behavior you want (see preceding table).
  3. Press ENTER.
