Issue:

Should other users be using the same machine as Vaults Job Processor?

Environment:

Job Processor is one component of the Thick Vault Client. It is not possible to install the Job Processor without the Vault Thick Client.

Solution:

  • No, this is not recommended by Autodesk.
    • Once the need for a Job Processor machine for Vault has been identified, Autodesk recommends no other users use the machine.
    • At a high level, the reasons for this are User Experience and Performance.
    • When the Job Processor runs, it will consume hardware resources such as CPU, Memory, network card, and read\writes to the hard disk. To a human user, it could result in unexpected periods of sluggishness while performing their tasks. Some JP tasks might result in pop-ups and changes in focus, which might lead to the assumption that it causes other applications to "hang." This can lead to frustration for a human user and a sub-optimal experience.
  • For best results, Autodesk recommends installing Vaults Job Processor on a machine no other user logs into.
  • A machine dedicated to the role of Job Processor.
