Moving everyone to fully featured hubs in Autodesk Fusion.

Why is this upgrade required?

Autodesk is supporting and advancing our customers digital transformation journey by connecting workflows in the cloud. Autodesk Fusion, the industry cloud for Design and Manufacturing, connects customer data and people across the entire product development lifecycle from top floor to shop floor.

We introduced Autodesk’s industry clouds at AU  and we’re excited to share that today, Autodesk Fusion has unlocked a major milestone in the way we maintain cloud data, ensuring the continued strength in cloud security, enabling you with greater control, and building the foundation for a more frictionless experience in collaboration and data management.

By sunsetting old tech builds and upgrading data, this allows us to be more agile and efficient in our future investments in deepening customer workflows and outcomes across the whole Design and Manufacturing portfolio.

The Benefits of Upgrading to Fusion Hub

Upgrading to Fusion Hub gives you greater control over data, and access to functionality like enhanced roles and permissions, Fusion Home tab, configurations, and, AnyCAD. Fusion Hub enhances the Fusion experience by giving access to Shared Assets folders, improving your ability to manage project permissions, and ensuring that all your Fusion data is centrally controlled.

Serving collaboration needs, today and tomorrow for our customers

We believe that collaboration and connected data is foundational to working digitally in the Design and Manufacturing industry. Unlocking the power of our customer's data means achieving easier, more frictionless ways to protect, connect, analyze, and optimize, all on one single source of truth in the cloud.

Cloud connectivity allows our customers to make better decisions earlier, reduce errors, and solve problems ahead of time, whether that looks like two people working side-by-side on the manufacturing floor, or two-hundred people collaborating globally on one total product lifecycle system.

Autodesk Fusion will continue to use next generation technology to deliver deeper workflows and outcomes for our Design and Manufacturing customers. We are inspired by this crucial step forward today, marking a milestone in our multi-year journey in transforming the ways our customers will work and collaborate in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is going to happen during this upgrade?

We will have a new process to guide single storage users to upgrade to a Fusion hub. This process has been simplified to be straightforward and unintrusive. Our goal is to get you back to designing as soon as possible.

  • The projects you own are going to be transferred to either a new Fusion hub or to a Fusion hub that you are already a part of.
  • You will be provided read only access to your single user storage for 30 days to allow the others to perform the upgrade. During the 30 days, most people that you actively collaborate with should have also performed the upgrade.
  • If you do not have any shared projects, then your single user storage will be removed from your hub switcher after all of the projects have been transferred to your Fusion Hub.

What happens to the Assets library after upgrading?

Your single user storage Assets Library is going to be included in the upgrade process. There are two scenarios to consider:

  • New Fusion hub
If you are creating a new Fusion hub as part of the process, your single user storage Assets Library contents will automatically be moved into the Assets Library.

  • Existing Fusion hub
If you are migrating to an Fusion hub, there will may already be an Assets Library. To avoid loss of data, the assets from your single user storage will be migrated as a new project in the destination Fusion hub. The project name will be appended with your First and Last name. The below image is showing two users that have upgraded to the same Fusion hub with their own unique Assets projects.

The reason we are doing this is to ensure your contents do not get left behind and also account for multiple users that are consolidating to one Fusion hub.

Once you have upgraded, then you can simply move/copy the contents into the existing Assets library. The best way to accomplish this is by going out to your Fusion hub via the web browser.

Why do my share links no longer work after I go through the upgrade?

After upgrading, all share links will be broken. You can generate a new share link after the data has been upgraded.

When will this take place?

Starting soon we will be providing messaging from the Fusion notification center that will allow people that are ready to move to Fusion Hub the option to go through this process when they are ready.

After approximately 30 days, we will require people to go through the process to move to Fusion Hub.

You can continue to use Fusion as you normally would do on this stage.

We realize that this may be inconvenient and will allow you to skip the process once.  This will ensure that you can continue your tasks for the day and be prepared to go through the process on the following day.

What is Single-User Storage?

This was the default location for all projects in Fusion. Single-User storage is simple and easy to use, however when working with others, we realized that people need more capabilities.

How do I know if I am using Single-User Storage?

To see if you are using Single Storage:

  1. Open Fusion.
  2. Navigate to the Data panel icon to expand.
    • If you are seeing a single user silhouette, you are using Single Storage.

Hub name in the top left corner

  • If you are seeing a multi-user silhouette, select the Select the Hub drop-down to determine if you have Single Storage available:

Select the drop down to see the list of hub names

  1. If an option to switch to Single-User storage is available, then you have single storage. If you only see the multi-user silhouette, then there is nothing for you to do and you are already using Fusion Hub.

Will I be able to upgrade early?

Yes!  Everyone will have the chance to upgrade before being required to. A notification in the Fusion Notification center will be made available to everyone with the option to Start Now.

Select the bell icon to see notifications

"Changes to cloud data management" notification

Am I required to upgrade?

Yes, everyone that has single-user storage will be required to upgrade.

What projects are upgraded?

For security reasons, only the single user projects that you own will get upgraded to Fusion Hub. Once other owners of the projects that you have access to go through the process of upgrading, the projects will be made available in their Fusion hub. While you have upgraded and waiting for others to go through the process, you can still access your single-storage projects as read only for 30 days.

Does it cost to upgrade?

No, this upgrade has always been available at no cost.  All subscriptions are entitled to a Fusion Hub.

What if I am only one person, do I really need Fusion Hub?

You can work in a Fusion Hub the same way as you would in single user storage.

When will I be required to upgrade?

Approximately 30 days after you receive the notification that you can Start now. If you choose to wait, then you will be prompted and required to go through the process.

How long can I skip the process?

You can skip this process one time.  Approximately 24 hours later, you will be required to go through the process.

What if I am not currently part of a Fusion Hub?

We will automatically recognize that you do not have access to a Fusion Hub.  During the upgrade process you will be prompted to either join an existing/available Fusion Hub or create a Fusion Hub.

Why is single-user storage being removed?

To simplify the experience by only having one location for you to manage data. Autodesk has been adding new functionality to Fusion Hub only, and all new features added in the future will only be to Fusion Hub.

What if I don’t want to share my data with others?

You can work in a Fusion Hub alone. If you are the Fusion Hub administrator, you have full control of who can access your data and can choose not to share your data with anyone. You can also choose to create your own Fusion Hub versus joining an existing hub.

I’d like to upgrade but missed the notification. How can I upgrade?

You can upgrade at any time from the Fusion web client.
  1. Go to the Fusion web client by clicking the globe icon from the data panel
  2. Select any Project
  3. Click the “Project Members” tab
  4. Click the “Start update” button in the top banner
You’ll then be guided through the process for moving all Projects to a Fusion hub.
Your personal projects need to be updated to Fusion Team

What if I don’t want to upgrade my data to Fusion Hub?

Since we are supporting only one location to store data, you will be required to upgrade to Fusion Hub.

What happens to users that I have shared my projects with after the upgrade?

Every person will be made a member of your newly created hub and have the same access as they did before the upgrade.

Can I create more than one Fusion Hub?

We currently allow you to create only one Fusion Hub.  However, you can be a hub administrator of multiple hubs.

How do I manage people in a Fusion Hub?

Unlike single user storage, Fusion Hub Administrators can manage people and control who have access to specific design data. See Work on projects with people in a hub for more information on how to collaborate in a Fusion hub.

Will I have more control over my data after the upgrade to Fusion Hub?

After you upgrade, you will be made the Fusion Hub Admin of your Fusion Hub. Fusion Hub has more roles and Hub settings that do not exist in single-user storage.

I currently do not have access to Home tab.  Will I get access to the Home tab once the upgrade is complete?

After you upgrade and shortly after your single user storage is no longer listed in the Fusion hub switcher, the Fusion Home tab will be accessible the next time you restart Fusion. If you still have your single user storage listed, that means there are projects shared with you by others that have not gone through the upgrade yet. When these projects have been upgraded, your single user storage hub will be removed from the Fusion hub switcher.
