Issue:

When doing any of the following in an AutoCAD drawing:

  • Changing the formatting of a text style.
  • Applying a text style.
  • Changing the text style within a font family, such as Arial to Arial Narrow.

The following occurs for or more MText or MLeader objects in the drawing:

  • Do not show the change.
  • Show the change partially.
  • Show the change momentarily, then revert to as it was.
Additionally, the Properties palette > Contents show the text prefixed with formatting characters. For example:

{\f@[Font Name]|...

MTEXT properties window

Causes:

  • The formatting within the MText overrides the text style.
  • The font defined in the text style, or in the font override, is not installed on the system. This would result in the text appearing differently than expected.

Solution:

Do one or more of the following:
  • Double-click on the Mtext and apply the correct formatting using the Text editor.
  • Manually remove formatting.
    1. Double-click on the Mtext.
    2. Press CTRL + A.
    3. Right-click anywhere and go to Remove formatting > Remove all formatting.
    4. Close the Text editor by saving the changes. This will allow the text to adhere to the applied text style.
  • Use the EXPLODE command to explode Mtext objects to basic text objects. The formatting overrides will be lost.
  • Make sure all needed fonts are install. Missing fonts show in the text styles.
