Issue:

How to transfer a workspace from one computer to another, without having to transfer the entire CUI file in AutoCAD Products.

Solution:

To migrate settings from one computer to another

  1. Keep the previous version of AutoCAD installed on the old computer.
  2. Install the new version of AutoCAD on the old computer.
  3. Use the migration utility to transfer settings from the older version of AutoCAD to the new version:
    • Windows 10 and 11: Start > AutoCAD 20xx > Migrate From a Previous Release
  4. When the migration of settings is complete, export these settings from the new version of AutoCAD:
    • Windows 10 and 11: Start > AutoCAD 20xx > Export AutoCAD 20xx Settings
  5. Import the settings into the new version of AutoCAD on the new computer:
    • Windows 10 and 11: Start > AutoCAD 20xx > Import AutoCAD 20xx Settings

Manually transfer the settings from one computer to another

Only transfer the workspaces that are needed on the new computer:

  1. On the command line, enter CUI.
  2. On the Transfer tab of the Customize User Interface dialog box, verify that there's an empty CUI file in the right panel. If not, click "Create a New Customization File".
  3. In the left panel, click the workspace that is being transferred. Drag it from the left side of the workspaces tree, to the right side of the workspaces tree.
  4. Repeat step 3 for any other workspaces that are to be transferred.
  5. Save the resulting CUI file by clicking the floppy disk icon.
  6. Switch to the computer where the workspace will be transferred to.
  7. Enter CUI on the command line to open the Customize User Interface dialog box.
  8. On the Transfer tab, in the right panel, open the newly created CUI file.
  9. Select the workspace that you want to import and drag the workspace into the Workspaces section of the Main CUI file in the left panel.
  10. Ensure that the newly imported CUI file is set as current.
  11. Save the Main CUI file by clicking the floppy disk icon.

Alternatively,
Enter CUIIMPORT (_CUIIMPORT for non-English version) and continue importing the CUIX file

Sharing the old tool palettes on another computer

  1. Open the options and switch to tab "Files".
  2. Expand node "Tool Palettes File Locations" and change the drive to a network drive.
  3. Copy the local tool palettes (old local path from step 2) from the local drive to the network drive.
