Operation could not be completed warning message in Revit

  • The Revit journal file reads similar to the following:

DBG_WARN: Central permission origId = [Element ID] was not written in permissions syncing data.

Causes:

There are corrupted elements with no workset assigned in the affected Revit model.

Solution:

To avoid this behavior, follow these steps:

Remove affected element

Find the element ID of the affected elements recorded in the journal, delete them, and recreate them.

Note:
  • If the message "You do not have permissions to edit the element" is displayed when deleting the elements, check with all worksets turned on.
  • If the error continues after successfully deleting the Element ID found in the journal, recheck the journal to see if there are more elements with no workset assigned.

If the error continues and there are no IDs found, follow the steps:

  1. Create a separate copy of the project.
  2. Open Revit.
  3. Remove linked files.
  4. Go to the default 3D view (turn off the section box if enabled).
  5. Select all visible elements and delete them.
  6. Delete all project views (except for the default 3D view).
  7. Delete all schedules and sheets.
  8. Save the project to a new name.
  9. Open the journal file recorded and search for the following lines:
DBG_WARN: Deleted element [Element ID] has invalid partition #-1: line 169 of BaseUI\PartitionViolations.cpp.
  1. Use the element IDs found and clear them from the original project file.
  2. If you receive the following error, restart the machine and try deleting the elements again:

Revit

The following Element IDs are invalid and won't be used;
The following Element IDs are invalid message

Note: If these steps do not clear the issue, disable and then re-enable worksharing to clear the issue. Use the following steps to do so:

  1. Download the model to a local drive and open it with Audit and Detach selected.
  2. When prompted, discard Worksets.
  3. Save it as a new file in the local folder.
  4. Use the Collaborate command to re-enable worksharing.
  5. Save as Central model into Revit Server.

Cleanup failed uploads

If upload attempts fail with no option to delete in Revit Server Administrator, they have to be removed manually when accessing the files on the server.
