Issue:

You want to switch the plot style of a drawing from a named plot style (acad.stb) to a color-dependent plot style (acad.ctb).  You may be having difficulty because, in the plot window in AutoCAD, the plot style table drop-down menu does support switching between an STB and CTB file.

Solution:

To convert from an STB to a CTB plot style mode, use either of the following methods:

Convert plot styles (Windows only)

  • Use the CONVERTPSTYLES command.

Create a new drawing using the correct plot style

  1. Start a new drawing using one of the default template (DWT) files without Named Plot Styles in the name.
  2. Confirm that the style of the new drawing is set to use CTBs by issuing the variable name PSTYLEMODE at the AutoCAD command line. A value of 1 is for CTBs, while a value of 0 is for STBs.
  3. Insert the drawing with the plot style you wish to switch into the newly created drawing. Use the INSERT command, which has an option to explode the block upon insertion.
Note: As you're inserting a whole drawing, exploding it is advised. However, it can also be exploded after the insertion, if not done during the insertion operation.
