Issue:

Which ports needs to be unblocked to connect the Vault Client to Vault Server over VPN (Virtual Private Network)?

Solution:

Different features of Vault use different ports, it is therefore important to know:
  • If logging in from a unlicensed (Vault Basic) client or a licensed Vault (Vault Workgroup or Vault Professional) client.
  • If logging into an ADMS (Autodesk Data Management Server) or an AVFS (Autodesk Vault File Server).
  • The "Authentication" method being used.

Licensed or Unlicensed?

If it is a licensed version of Vault, is it a networked license or a Standalone license.

If the Vault client is configured to use a Network license, it will need to communicate with the licensing server. (Ports used by Autodesk Network License Manager)
Workarounds could be to "Borrow" the license from the license server, or switch to a Standalone license. (See "Vault Licensing FAQ" and "How do I borrow a Vault license?")

ADMS or AVFS?

Any Vault client will need to connect to the Vault Server using HTTP. The Vault server needs to be configured to accept incoming connections through the default TCP Port 80.
But the default can be changed by whoever installed Vault Server, so check with the servers administrator.. What Port does Vault Server use?

If connecting to a Vault File Server (AVFS), that also will to be configured need to connect to the (ADMS) Autodesk Data Management Server, as well.

Logging in with a Windows Authenticated (Domain) (as opposed to a Vault) account?

If logging in to the Vault Server using a Windows Account, the client needs to be able to access a Windows Authenticating Server through whatever port that is using. See "Service overview and network port requirements for Windows"

Summary

The ports that need to be opened on the VPN Router, to enable clients located outside the firewall, can differ from one environment to another. Use the above information to work with your Network Administrators to gain connectivity.
