Issue:

When launching Vault Autodesk Data Management Server (ADMS) console, a popup appears:


Impersonation User Login
The Server console requires ASP.NET impersonation which executes with a certain user identity. Validation of this identity has failed for the following reasons:

The username or password is incorrect.
Provide a valid impersonation user.

Impersonation user log in error message shown on the Vault Server


The following message may also be displayed:


The referenced account is currently locked out and may not be logged on to.

More symptoms:

  • In IIS, browsing to securityservice.asmx resulted in Error 500.19 Internal Server Error.
  • This can also result in experiencing the following message when trying to sign in:

"...could not find the Data Management Services on..."

 
 

Causes:

The issue can have multiple causes:
  • The standard Windows username 'AutodeskVault' or password needs to be correct. 
  • The Windows server crashed and the installation was corrupted.
  • The web.config file had been modified incorrectly. Some characters were typed incorrectly.
  • Vault is installed on the Windows domain controller or was promoted to a domain controller.
  • The Vault server's hostname was recently renamed.
  • The Vault Server file store's permission has changed recently.
