Issue:

What are best practices for running Vault Job Processor?

Solution:

  1. Set up a super-user Job Processor account that has full Allow permissions to every lifecycle state and folder in Vault

  1. Install Vault's Job Processor on a dedicated machine.

Should other users be using the same machine as Vaults Job Processor?

A popular practice is to install Vault's Job Processor in a Virtual machine. (See: Can Vaults Job Processor be installed in a virtualized environment?)

  1. Install the Latest Updates for the Vault Client and its external dependencies.

    What is an external dependency?
Vaults Job Processor never processes a job itself. Using Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), Vault will communicate with other programs to process jobs. Inventor file types are processed not by Vault, but by Inventor or Inventor Server. AutoCAD DWGs are processed by DWG TrueView. See following image. These other programs are called External Dependencies.

Always install the latest updates for the Thick Vault Client and all its External Dependencies.
Download the latest updates from Autodesk Account.

  2. Avoid connecting from a different network.

Only connect a Job Processor client to the Vault server when on the same network. Avoid using VPN or Vault Gateway to connect to the Vault server. Vaults Job Processor can use numerous bandwidth and these technologies rely on sharing a limited resources. Excessive use can be interpreted as a Denial of Service attack.
