Issue:

The following message appears in Inventor:

The current operation requires data from document <FILEPATH>, but it cannot be found. The document may have been moved, renamed, or deleted. The operation must be either aborted or the file located.

The current operation requires data from document <FILEPATH>, but it cannot be found. The document may have been moved, renamed, or deleted.
The operation must be either aborted or the file located.

Explanation of the above message:

The above warning is displayed because the file that is already open (loaded into the Inventor cache) has been replaced by a new version of the same file that is also trying to open. This causes a conflict. Inventor cannot open two versions of the same file in the same session (path and file name are the same). This behaviour can occur in the following workflows:

  • Vault Workflow - Attempting to open two assemblies containing two different versions/revisions of the same component/assembly/part within a single Inventor session. Note: The replacement/overwrite process takes place in the background.

  • Non-Vault Workflow - Manually overwrite a local file with another version of the file using CTRL+C and CTRL+V.

After installation:

  • Inventor 2024.1 Update

  • Inventor 2022.5 Update

  • Inventor 2023.4 Update

The message is the following:

"FILE_NAME is opened in Inventor and loaded into cache. The file located at FILE_NAME_PARTH is a different file version. Inventor can't open two versions of the same file name are the same) in the same session. Save your work, and then close and reopen the documents using this file to dear the cache."
