Unable to create 2D curve profile with helical finish to depth in PowerMill

Issue:

When machining a 2D curve profile to depth in PowerMill, there is no option to machine the side wall using a helical or spiral motion.


Solution:

To machine around the profile in a helical motion, do the following

  1. Within Cut distances, set the Stock Depth to 0, so that a single pass is made at the bottom of the profile.
  2. In Leads and links, set the Lead in as shown below.
  3. Recalculate the toolpaths.

Note : Compare the number of lifts and time to the original toolpath.

Alternative method to achieve similar times and lifts

If a helical toolpath is not suitable, use the following method instead.

  1. Edit the Lead in and Lead out as Horizontal arc with the required value.

  1. Set the Links to Circular arc in 1st choice.

  1. Recalculate the toolpath.
