3D simulation shows an inconsistent tool gouging or collision into the part in FeatureCAM

Issue:

Users reported that, 3D simulation of setup shows tool gouging into the part in FeatureCAM.

 

  • Unable to find out the issue when simulating the part and continually get the tools gouging into the part.
  • Gouge relates to drilling and milling toolpaths.

Solution:

Increase the Z axis value within CNC file options

 

  1. Open FeatureCAM Options.
  2. Select Posting->Milling.
  3. Check the tool change location.
  4. Increase the value as required.

Set Tool Change options, when using a five axis machine tool

 

  1. Ctrl + right-click the lowest part of the window, and turn on "Show Tool Change tab". 
  2. Open FeatureCAM Options.
  3. Select Simulation->Tool Change.
  4. Turn on the checkbox "G28 for tool change"  which will mimic the G53 Z0 and "go home" for a tool change.

Increase Z index clearance value

  1. From Part View area double-click on Machining Attributes.
  2. In Mill tab select Misc.
  3. Increase Z index clearance value.
