Issue:

Where to find symbol libraries for AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT.

Solution:

AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT do not ship with extensive symbol libraries. Libraries can be created or found online. Many manufacturers in different industries provide libraries of blocks for their products for use with AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT. Some are free while some may have a fee associated.

The available symbols can be found at the Ribbon > View tab > Palettes panel, to launch the Tools Palettes. (Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + 3).

Notes:

  • The followig content is available to download:
  • Some symbols can be found in the sample files that come with AutoCAD. These are located at "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 20xx\Sample\en-us".
    • Sample Blocks:
      "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2023\Sample\en-US\Dynamic Blocks"
      "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2023\Sample\en-US\DesignCenter"
    • Sample Drawings:
      "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2023\Sample\Sample Drawings"
      "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2023\Sample\Mechanical Sample"
    •  Sheet sets (Architectural, Civil, Manufacturing):
      "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2023\Sample\Sheet Sets"
    • Textures and Materials:
      Autodesk BaseImage Library > "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Materials"
  • When you check the Properties of a block from the Tool palettes, you will see where the block is located.
