Issue:

How to derive a PCB outline from an existing enclosure or 3D model in Fusion 360.

Solution:

Follow these steps to create a PCB outline from an existing enclosure or a 3D model:
  1. Open the enclosure/3D model from which the PCB should be derived.
  2. Create an offset plane where the PCB should be placed.
  3. Create a sketch by projecting the desired feature from the model.
  4. Modify the projected sketch shape to get the desired PCB outline.
  5. Create an offset for the modified outline sketch.
  6. Go to create PCB under Create in Solid workspace.
  7. Select Associative PCB to create a derived-associative PCB. Any changes to the sketch outline in the future will result in a change in the shape of the PCB.
  8. Select Independent PCB to create an independent PCB. Any Future changes to the original sketch will not affect the independent PCB after creation.
  9. In both options select the x-axis and origin to match the 2D PCB x-axis and origin.
  10. Save the created PCB.
