Issue:

  • When exporting the DWG from Revit, MEP symbols are covered by other elements, for example, duct hatches.
  • How to set up the DWG export to avoid covering MEP symbols with other elements in Revit?

Causes:

The symbol elements covered partially by other elements will be exported as a block to two layers:
  • the main part of the element is exported as per the layer set up for the specific Family Category,
  • the hidden part will be exported to the layer setup for the Category: Lines: Hidden, for example, A-DETL-HDLN.

Solution:

  • Currently, there is no specific DWG setup to avoid the hidden part of the elements being exported to a different layer than the visible part of the Family.
  • As an alternative, check one of the methods:
    • If the Family contains mainly symbols, like lines, consider creating it as an annotation family. This category will be always displayed (and exported) on top of other elements.
    • When having the 3D family with a specific category, consider cutting the view range for the exported view in order to not hide the families with other elements located above the families.
    • Nest an annotation family into a 3D MEP family. In this way, the symbol will be always displayed on top of other elements in the plan view but the actual element can be located at the desired elevation.
Note: When exporting this type of family, the nested annotation family will be not exported as a block.
