Issue:

When creating an insulation thickness change of property, no annotation showing the thickness change will be shown in isometric drawings in AutoCAD Plant 3D.

Causes:

The insulation thickness is a pipeline group property. Having different insulation thicknesses in different spools ultimately results in the whole pipeline group having the same insulation thickness.

Solution:

Create a pipe run component calculated property with the value of the pipeline group insulation thickness property. Perform the following steps in order:

Create a new calculated property, and a property breaker scheme from the Project Setup:

  1. Open the Project Setup of your project.
  2. Navigate to Plant 3D DWG Settings - Plant 3D Class Definitions - Piping and Equipment - Pipe Run Component.
  3. Add a property which is a Calculated Property and give it a unique name, for example InsulThickness.
    • insulth.PNG
  4. Set the Calculated Property Expression as the InsulationThickness property of the pipeline group.
    • insulcalc.PNG
  5. Add the property.
  6. Navigate to Isometric DWG Settings - Annotations.
  7. Switch to the Property Changes annotation tab.
  8. Add a property change annotation using the new calculated property InsulThickness.
  9. Apply the changes to the Project Setup, and press OK.

Add your new calculated property to the Iso.atr file:

  1. Open your project folder in the File Explorer.
  2. Navigate to Isometric - <the isometric style you use folder>.
  3. Open the Iso.atr file with the Notepad.
  4. Add your new custom calculated property to the BOM-ATTRIBUTES.
  5. Save the file.
