Issue:

When saving an Alias Editor (PGP) file in AutoCAD products, a message is displayed:

Notepad

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD (LT)20xx\UserDataCache\(Installed laguage)\Support\acad(lt).pgp
You do not have permission to open this file. See the owner of
the file or an administrator to obtain permission.

Notepad You do not have permission to open this file. See the owner of the file or an administrator to obtain permission.

Note: the program name and release number will change based on the product in use.

Causes:

  • The folder path the file is accessed from is part of the install package rather than the working support file path.
  • The PGP file was lacking 'write' and 'modify' permissions.

Solution:

Edit the PGP file in Alias Editor

Edit the PGP file from the Alias Editor with Express Tool inside AutoCAD products to ensure the file it is the one associated with the program version and release in use. See How to customize command aliases in AutoCAD.
Note : Express Tools are not supported in AutoCAD LT.

Modifying Permissions of PGP File

By changing the permissions of the acad(lt).pgp file to 'Full Access', then able to save it successfully the pgp file without notepad message.
