Issue:

How to add or change the dimension number formats in AutoCAD such as:

  • Setting digit grouping separator. (e.g. thousand separator for integer)
  • Setting decimal separator symbols.

Causes:

  • AutoCAD uses a point as decimal separator as a standard for displaying and entering decimal numbers. Dimensions are an exception as decimal separator can be modified in the Dimension Styles dialogue box.
  • AutoCAD does not use thousand separator by default.

Solution:

Customizing the dimension number formats can be done through the dimension style settings.

  1. Use DIMLUNIT in order to set the unit format in AutoCAD or change Unit format to 'Windows Desktop' from Primary Units in Dim style. This will allow to use the Windows Desktop settings such as defining digit number grouping symbol.Windows desktop setting under primary units tab of DIMSTYLE dialogue box
  2. Go to Windows > Control Panel > Clock, Region and Language > Change the date, time or number format > Formats > Additional Settings

Windows 10 Decimal Symbol change location which is under region of control panel

  1. Apply the changes for the number format settings in Windows.
  2. Restart AutoCAD product.
