How to manually register an Autodesk software with the Helper Tool within the Autodesk Licensing Service.

This process is only valid for versions 2020 or higher on Windows. It may help to resolve licensing issues such as:

Note: You may need to consult with your system administrator to perform the following steps.

Registering a product

  1. Make sure the Autodesk Licensing Service is properly running.
  2. Download the install package of the software you want to re-register using the Download method.

  1. Right-click on the installer file and select Run as Administrator, wait till the installer extracts the files.

Creating installer

  1. Navigate to the folder where the installation files are located. 

Open in folder

  1. Once in the folder, in File Explorer search for files with *.pit extension. For AutoCAD for example, the file would be AutoCADConfig.pit.

  1. Copy the *.pit file and paste it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AdskLicensing\Current\helper\.
  2. Open an elevated Command Prompt (press WIN+R > type cmd > press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER).
  3. Run the following command:  
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AdskLicensing\Current\helper\AdskLicensingInstHelper.exe" register -pk product key -pv year.0.0.F -cf "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AdskLicensing\Current\helper\AutoCADConfig.pit" -el US
Notes about the command:
  • product key changes depending on the software. List of product keys: Look Up Product Keys. For AutoCAD 2023 that is 001O1.
  • year changes depending on the version. For AutoCAD 2023 that is 2023.
  1. The software has been registered successfully.


Deregistering a product

Important: Deregistering a product from the Licensing Service will render the software unusable and it will cause a license error at launch. Such procedure should always be followed by a re-registration as indicated above.
  1. Open an elevated Command Prompt (press WIN+R > type cmd > press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER).
  2. Run the following command:  
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AdskLicensing\Current\helper\AdskLicensingInstHelper.exe" deregister -pk product key -pv year.0.0.F
Notes about the command:
  • product key changes depending on the software. List of product keys: Look Up Product Keys. For AutoCAD 2023 that is 001O1.
  • year changes depending on the version. For AutoCAD 2023 that is 2023.
  1. The software has been deregistered successfully.
