DWG file is not correctly imported if nothing is visible in Revit view

Issue:

Users reported that DWG file is not correctly imported when using "Auto - Center to center" if nothing is visible in Revit view. Revit uses "Auto - Origin to Internal Origin" method and the geometry from DWG file can be placed outside 20 miles limit.

Status:

This incident has been resolved in:

Revit 2025

To install updates, open the Autodesk desktop app and click My Updates. To install a new version of your Autodesk software, open the Autodesk desktop app, sign in, and click My Products. To use a web browser to install updates or a new version, sign in to Autodesk Account. (Your access to new versions or updates depends on your Autodesk software entitlements.)

Workaround:

As an alternative solution use one of the following steps before linking DWG file in Revit:
  • Set the view range to unlimited to show elements from the whole model in the view.
  • Use the Underlay option to show the model elements in the empty view.
  • Show Internal Origin in the view.
