Issue:

When importing a point file into Civil 3D, there is a message in the import point dialog that reads:

Import Points

No point file format match found.

User-added image

This may apply to different point file formats, like CSV, TXT, etc.

Causes:

The causes of this issue include:
  • The source point file is open while trying to sample it in Civil 3D.
  • Bad data in the point file (i.e. extra periods, blank spaces, or formatting issues).
  • The point file format is not compatible with the one selected in Civil 3D.
  • Point file has headers.
  • Point number is alpha-numeric

Solution:

To resolve this issue, consider the following:
  • Make sure that the point file is closed before importing it.
  • Remove any headers from the point file.
  • Check that there are no unwanted characters inside the point file, like %,&,$, etc.
  • Verify that the Point Number is a Whole Number only (no letters)
  • Be aware of the format used inside the point file, so the corresponding one is selected in Civil 3D. It may be necessary to create a custom point format if the necessary format doesn't exist in Civil 3D.
  • Check the following article that contains a detailed explanation on How to import point data from Excel into Civil 3D.
  • If the issue applies to a single computer and the file can be imported successfully in another machine:

Note: Use a text editor (like Notepad++) to review the point file for unwanted characters and to confirm its format.
