Issue:

Users reported that the following message appears when opening files from Vault to view them with Inventor View:

User-added image
This file was created with Inventor. We cannot find this application on your computer.

This issue occurs on systems where no full version of Inventor is installed.

Status:

This incident has been resolved in:

Vault 2019.2 Update

To install updates, open the Autodesk desktop app and click My Updates. To install a new version of your Autodesk software, open the Autodesk desktop app, sign in, and click My Products. To use a web browser to install updates or a new version, sign in to Autodesk Account. (Your access to new versions or updates depends on your Autodesk software entitlements.)

Workaround:

The usual workaround is to use 'View in Window' instead of 'Open':
  • Go to the Tools menu in the Vault Client.
  • Select Options.
  • Set the dropdown 'Invoke with double-click' to 'View in Window'

Note: If a dwf file is available for the Inventor file, the function 'View in Window' opens a built in Window of  'Autodesk Design Review' and represents the dwf file. If no dwf file has been generated, 'View in Window' opens Inventor View.

Remark: Inventor 2020 provides the possibility to run in an 'Inventor Read Only' mode that can be used as a viewer without consuming an Inventor license. Install Inventor Read Only instead of Inventor View to avoid the above issues when using the 2020 version.
